A high wave warning is in place for our coastline this weekend. A strong westerly swell is expected from Saturday 24 January through to Sunday 25 January, with a swell event (high energy waves) and elevated water levels predicted.

This wave event is big, even for the west coast, with forecast swell over 5 metres and maximum wave height over 10 metres possible. The highest risk period is within 1-2 hours of high tide.

The next high tide for the coastline from Marokopa to Mōkau is around 2pm on Saturday. For Sunday, high tide is around 2.50pm.

Kent Street repairs to start on Monday

26 Sep 2025, 12:56 PM

Camex Civil will begin construction of a new retaining wall on Kent Street on Monday 29 September. Works are expected to be completed by December subject to weather conditions.

Traffic management will be in place from this date. Temporary traffic lights will be used to control the flow of traffic through the site and we ask that you please follow their guidance.

Residents can expect to pass through the site with minimal delays:

Anytime before 9am, 12 – 12.30pm, 2.30 – 3.30pm, and anytime beyond 5pm

The team on-site will do their best to accommodate residents needs to move in and out of the area while traffic management is in place, however, if you are trying to pass through the site outside of the ranges mentioned above, you may experience delays up to 50 minutes.

For certain construction activities, the road will need to be fully closed with no access through the site. The approved times for these road closures are:

9am – 12pm, 12.30pm – 2.30pm, and 3.30pm – 5pm.

Camex will notify residents 5 days prior to these activities occurring via a letter drop. We ask that you plan your movements on these days around of the proposed times.

A letter has been distributed to affected residents with more detail. If you have not received a letter and believe you are effected by the works, please email [email protected] or call 07 823 4407.

Alternatively, if you have any specific questions regarding access please stop and chat to the team onsite.

We ask for your patience and understanding while we undertake these works to restore full access for the Kent Street residents.
