Potential upcoming temporary change to kerbside collection due to SH3 closure
NZTA has scheduled a full road closure of SH3/Awakino Gorge from Saturday 29 August to Tuesday 1 September, which will affect kerbside collection for Piopio and Mōkau. However the closure is weather-dependent. If the road closure goes ahead, kerbside collection for Piopio and Mōkau will take place on Wednesday, 2 September 2026. If the road closure is postponed due to bad weather, it will be re-scheduled to 6am Thursday 3 September to 6pm Sunday 6 September. This means that kerbside collection will not be affected.
