Weather Watch - High wave warning along coastline

A high wave warning is in place for our coastline this weekend. A strong westerly swell is expected from Saturday 24 January through to Sunday 25 January, with a swell event (high energy waves) and elevated water levels predicted.

This wave event is big, even for the west coast, with forecast swell over 5 metres and maximum wave height over 10 metres possible. The highest risk period is within 1-2 hours of high tide.

The next high tide for the coastline from Marokopa to Mōkau is around 2pm on Saturday. For Sunday, high tide is around 2.50pm.

Proposal for Temporary Closure of Road/ Street To Ordinary Vehicular Traffic

PURSUANT to the Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1975, notice is hereby given that the Waitomo District Council, for the purpose of the Aria Rally Motorsport Event 2023 proposes to temporarily close the following roads/streets to ordinary vehicular traffic for the periods indicated:

Rally event 2023

Date: Sunday 29/10/2023

Period of Closure: 9.00am to 4.00pm

Streets/Roads: Kumara Road, Waitewhena Road, Ohura Road, Kaeaea Road, Matiere Road, Oniao Road, Owen Road, Kohua Road, Tikitiki Road.

Intersections affected: Paraheka Road, Parakoko Road, Keighley Road, Ohura Road, Matiere Road, Mokauiti Road, Kohua Road, Ngatamahine Road, Ruariki Road, Kaitaringa Roa, Tikitiki Road, Sargents Road.

Alternative Routes: No Alternative routes are provided and access is restricted as per letter drop to affected residents.

Any person objecting to the proposal is called upon to lodge notice of objection and grounds thereof in writing, before 5:00pm Monday 25th September 2023 at the Customer Service Centre, 160 Rora Street, Te Kūiti (next to the Colin Meads Statue).
