Butler Street Stormwater Upgrade and Road Closure
27 Jul 2026, 11:01 AM
As part of the ongoing stormwater upgrade programme in Te Kūiti, Waitomo District Council will be replacing an old stormwater pipe on Butler Street.
To provide a safe working environment for crews undertaking this work, Butler Street will be closed from Monday, 3 August to Friday, 7 August 2026. The road will be closed 24 hours a day during this period; however, access will be maintained for residents, visitors, service providers and emergency services.
A temporary metal road will be constructed to enable residents at the end of the street to access their properties while work is underway.
Working Hours
Work will take place between 7am and 5pm each day.
What Residents Can Expect
Residents and businesses in the area can expect:
A full road closure on Butler Street, Te Kūiti from 3–7 August.
Temporary pedestrian access, with detours and safety ramps clearly signposted where required.
Increased truck movements as machinery, materials and equipment are transported to and from the site.
Occasional temporary restrictions to driveway access. The project team will provide advance notice where possible.
Deep excavations within the work area, which will be fenced and secured at the end of each day.
Rubbish and recycling collections to continue as normal. Residents are asked to place bins and bags out on their usual collection day.
Drinking Water
The work is not expected to impact drinking water supplies. However, if you experience any issues, please contact Waitomo District Council on 0800 932 4357 or email [email protected].
We understand construction activities can be noisy and disruptive and appreciate the community's patience while this important infrastructure upgrade is completed.
