Business as usual for WDC

Media Release

Waitomo District Council (WDC) services are now back to pre-COVID-19 operations as the country moved to Alert Level 1 this week.

Under Alert Level 2 WDC were operating under restrictions including reduced opening hours and limited numbers at facilities. All of these restrictions have now been removed.

The library, customer services, landfill and transfer stations all returned to pre-COVID-19 operating hours on Tuesday this week.

General Manager, community services Helen Beever says, “We’re looking forward to welcoming more of our community back. We know some have kept away, but now that restrictions have been lifted we’re hoping everyone feels confident to start using our services again.”

The only exception is the Te Kuiti i-SITE, which will re-open on Tuesday, June 16 with reduced hours.

Beever says, “this is a temporary measure which we’ll revisit in October.  Due to the borders being closed we will not be serving our international visitors, but we know kiwis are beginning to explore their own backyards again so it’s important the doors remain open so we can continue to showcase the region.

From Tuesday the i-SITE will also offer WDC customer services including rates payments and dog registration.

“With the i-SITE being on the main street, it’s hoped this will provide convenience for our customers.      If you’re already in town, it’s one less trip.”

The Te Kuiti i-SITE will reopen on Tuesday, June 16,. Opening hours until October 31 will be Tuesday – Friday 9am to 3pm.
