Slip on Te Waitere Road – please drive safe

Council is aware of a significant slip on Te Waitere Road. Currently the road is down to one lane with priority give way traffic control in place. Given there is poor weather forecast towards the end of the week, we encourage those needing to pass through this site to be vigilant and drive safely and to the conditions.

New citizens welcomed to Waitomo District

7 Jul 2023, 6:43 PM

Six new citizens were officially welcomed to the Waitomo District at a recent citizenship ceremony.

Originally spread across the globe, from India, Fiji, Philippines and Oman, the latest New Zealand citizens were addressed by Waitomo District Mayor, John Robertson and welcomed to the district at a special ceremony on Thursday 22 June 2023.

Mayor Robertson says it was wonderful to have regular citizenship ceremonies in person again after a long absence due to COVID.

“Citizenship Ceremonies are a special occasion to share with friends and family, and it’s always a great pleasure to be able to celebrate this occasion with our new citizens.

“The ceremony is an important step in the process of becoming a New Zealand citizen, and it gives new citizens a chance to share the experience of being welcomed into our community and participate in a way that helps enrich our culture.”
