Construction work will begin Tuesday 24 June around Centennial Park area to install concrete islands and road line marking. The roads to be marked are: Te Kūiti Road, Park Street, William Street and Ngarongo Road. We ask kindly that this area be kept clear of vehicles and residents do not park on the road for the next couple of days. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Slip on Te Waitere Road – please drive safe

Council is aware of a significant slip on Te Waitere Road. Currently the road is down to one lane with priority give way traffic control in place. Given there is poor weather forecast towards the end of the week, we encourage those needing to pass through this site to be vigilant and drive safely and to the conditions.

Planning underway for Kent Street repairs

Detailed planning is underway on how best to stabilise and repair Kent Street in Te Kūiti.

The street has slumped significantly over the past few years, meaning an “easy quick fix” was not a suitable option for its repair.

A detailed geotechnical assessment has been undertaken to help determine the best remedial options.

General Manager Infrastructure Services, Shyamal Ram says a detailed design for a timber retaining wall is underway to restore the road back to the desired level of service.

“Due to the geological conditions of the land under the road and the impact of continuous weather events, Kent Street will require significant works to reinstate the road.

“While it may seem we have taken quite some time before repair works could start, further investigation and a thorough assessment were required before a detailed design could be undertaken.”

The project will be funded through the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) Resilience Fund, meaning the financial impact on ratepayers is reduced significantly.

Construction is estimated to take place between April and August following a tender process.

During this period, residents will need to prepare for disruptions and implementation of traffic management (Stop/Go lane closure and potential road closures).

Updates will be provided as the project progresses.
