Contract Opportunity – Awakino Transfer Station Operations and Mōkau Bin Servicing

Waitomo District Council is inviting expressions of interest from reliable and community‑focused contractors for the operation of the Awakino Transfer Station and the servicing of public litter and recycling stations in Mōkau.
This is a minor services contract offering a great opportunity for a local operator or small business to play a key role in maintaining essential waste and recycling services for the community.
Scope of Services
The successful contractor will be responsible for:
Operating the Awakino Transfer Station (currently open Sundays, 9:00am – 1:00pm, with flexibility for extended hours as required)
Receiving and directing waste and recyclable materials safely and efficiently
Maintaining site cleanliness, safety, and compliance with WDC policies and consent requirements
Monitoring waste streams to minimise contamination and maximise recycling
Servicing public litter and recycling stations in Mokau (Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday schedules, with flexibility for extended days as required)
Providing accurate reporting (daily banking, monthly reporting, operational records)
What we’re looking for
We are seeking a contractor who:
Demonstrates strong health and safety practices
Has a commitment to customer service and community engagement
Is reliable, organised, and able to work independently
Has the capability to manage waste operations and minor maintenance tasks
Contract Term
The contract includes an initial term with the potential for extension, offering up to four years in total.
