As at 8am on 4 May, our roading crews are still working to clear slips and debris. Our road status remains unchanged. SH3 between Mōkau and Piopio is open under convoy arrangement during the weekend and nights.
The WDC Customer Services and Visitor Hub, Waitomo District Library and Admin Building will be closed on Thursday 7 May 2026 until 11am. We will still be available by phone on 0800 932 4357.

Council's solid waste contractor is unable to provide a kerbside collection service to Mōkau and Awakino residents until after 22 May 2026 due to the construction works happening on SH3 Awakino Gorge. We are currently working on a solution and will provide an update when an alternative is confirmed. We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

Change of Days at Maniaiti/Benneydale Waste Transfer Station
From 20 May 2026, the Maniaiti/Benneydale Waste Transfer Station will be open on Wednesdays from 1pm to 5pm and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm.
This change was made as per the request from the residents.
