Joining the Library

 



Joining the library is FREE for Waitomo, Ōtorohanga, and Ruapehu District Residents. 

(You can join by paying an annual subscription fee if you live outside of these District's).

To join you can fill in the electronic form below or visit our library in person.

Membership options:

Adult Membership – You will have access to all online and physical collections.

Junior Membership – Children under 18 are welcome to join the library. Parents will be responsible for the children’s cards until they are 18 years old. The application includes a separate page for collecting parent/guardian information.

Digital Only Membership – You will have access to the library's digital and online collections only.

If you wish to join online, please follow the link below and complete the form. You will be able to access our online resources and eCollections immediately.

 

To borrow from our physical collections, you will need to confirm your details within 2 weeks after electronic registration. Please visit the library and bring with you:

  • Proof of your identity (e.g. drivers licence, passport etc.)
  • Proof of where you live (something that has been through the mail that has your name and address on it.)

 


* Red notification during signup - This means someone with that name and birthdate is already a library member

Please disregard this notification if you receive it during the sign-up process.

The Waitomo District Library is part of the Kōtui Consortia. We share a library management system with many other New Zealand libraries. If you are a member of any of these other libraries, you may get this notification.

Terms and Conditions

  • Every resident or ratepayer of the Waitomo District Library is entitled to full and free membership of the Library.
  • All adult borrowers must show proof of ID before borrowing physical items from the library.
  • All child and youth borrowers must have an adult guarantor to complete registration. (This guarantor is responsible for any fines on the card until the child is over 18).
  • It is illegal to remove any material from the library without first having it issued.
  • You are responsible for all items borrowed on your library account.
  • You agree to pay for damaged or lost items.
  • You agree to pay overdue charges accrued on your account.
  • You agree to notify the library of any changes to your contact information.
  • You agree to notify the library immediately if your library card is stolen.
  • You agree to treat all library staff and customers with respect.
  • By joining the Waitomo District Library, you agree to your membership information being held in our library management data centre in Australia.

Privacy

Waitomo District Library is required to comply with the provisions of the Privacy Act 2020. Personal information is collected, held and used in accordance with the principles set out in that Act. In particular, the library will:

  • Use personal information only for the purpose for which it is collected.
  • Retain personal information only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected.
  • Ensure that the information is protected, by such security safeguards as are reasonable to protect against loss and misuse.
