Microchipping is a permanent means of identification that links dogs to their owners
Microchipping is a separate process from dog registration. You must register your dog every year, but you only need to microchip your dog once. Under the Dog Control Act 1996, all new puppies need to be microchipped within two months of when they are registered for the first time.
You also need to microchip your dog if:
- you are registering your dog for the first time after 1 July 2006
- your dog is classified as dangerous
- your dog is classified as menacing
Dogs that are impounded will not be released from the pound until they havebeen microchipped.
Working farm dogs used solely for the purpose of herding or droving stock are exempt from microchipping.
We can arrange for your dog to be microchipped for a fee of $25.00. Please contact our Customer Services Team for further information.
