Water Shutdown - Lawrence Street, Te Kūiti 4.30pm

Sometimes accidents happen...
The water supply to Lawrence Street will need to be shutdown for a few hours while contractors repair a broken watermain. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Urgent water shutdown for leak detection in Maniaiti/Benneydale
We have discovered that there is a large leak in the water network in Maniaiti/Benneydale that we need to find and fix, as we are losing a lot of water.
Waitomo District Council contractor McIndoe Group will be shutting down the water in Maniaiti/Benneydale today in order to try locate the leak.
Leak detection helps identify where there could be faults in the network and can also help determine where water loss is occurring.
There will only be a temporary interruption to water supply, and it should not overly disrupt or interfere with normal usage.
Work will include turning off a valve at each street for a few minutes to check for changes in water pressure.
A leak detection device will also be used to listen for leaks on the water mains.
If the leak is detected in the Council-owned network, repairs will be undertaken.
If you experience unclean water flow afterwards, please wait 10 minutes and then run an outside tap for at least five minutes or until water runs clear. This is to avoid any unclean water entering your household system.
We also ask that you please conserve water as much as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Feedback encouraged on WDC services and facilities

30 Apr 2025, 4:34 PM

Local residents are being encouraged to provide feedback on the services and facilities Waitomo District Council provides to its communities.

An invitation to complete WDC’s Residents’ Survey will soon hit letterboxes and email inboxes throughout the district, offering residents a chance to tell Council what they really think.

The survey is carried out by independent research company Key Research on behalf of Council. It is the first time Key Research will undertake the survey following a change of survey providers.

General Manager Strategy and Environment Alex Bell says Key Research delivers residents surveys for many other councils through New Zealand, and a change means results can be benchmarked against other similar councils.

Residents aged 18 years and older living in the district are eligible to undertake the survey as it is delivered to people listed on the current electoral roll.

“It is important Council understands the views of residents and what they think of Council’s performance over the past year,” says Alex.

“We deliver a number of services and facilities and this will help capture a range of views as to how we’re tracking. It also tracks against the various KPIs we have for some departments. Responses will identify areas for improvement and help us prioritise our services over the long term.”

The survey can be completed online or returned by post. Those who complete it before the close off date will be invited to enter a draw to win a $250 Prezzy Card.

Personal information provided by respondents will not be made available to the public or any WDC staff.

“We’re encouraging residents to share their views with us.  It helps shape our plans and prioritise so it’s important we hear from you,” says Alex.

Survey results will be included in WDC’s Annual Report published later in the year.

The survey needs to be returned by Saturday 31 May 2025.
