Physical Collections

The library offers a wide range of physical collections available for borrowing, including (but not limited to) fiction, non-fiction, large print books, early readers, graphic novels, DVDs, magazines, board games, children's and adult puzzles, digital and STEM kits, audio kits, and more.

To explore these collections, view the library catalogue here. You can search by title, author, subject, series, or other keywords. If you would like to browse the entire collection, simply enter a space in the search box and select search.

Once your search results are displayed, you can refine them by material type using the filters on the left-hand side of the page. This makes it easy to find the specific formats and resources you are looking for.

Download eBooks and eAudiobooks

Libby and BorrowBox are free library apps that provide access to thousands of eBooks and eAudiobooks. Borrow, download, and enjoy on your device anytime, anywhere.

Both apps are available for Android and iOS devices through their app stores.

To get started, visit your device's app store, search for Libby or BorrowBox, and download the app for free.

Wi-fi and Internet

The Library provides free computing and internet access via the Aotearoa People's Network Kaharoa (APNK).

APNK laptop and desktop computers using the Chrome operating system are available for public use. They are made available on a first-come-first-served basis, with a session limit of 30 minutes (although users can extend this time if no one is waiting). When there are no computers available, a booking queue is available to allocate computers as they become free.

APNK also provides a free Wi-Fi network in the library during opening hours, which the public can access using personal devices such as laptops, smartphones and tablets. The staff are always happy to assist if you have any trouble connecting.

Interloans

If the item or subject you are looking for is not available in the Waitomo District Library collection, we may be able to borrow it for you through our Interloan Service from another library.

Interloan requests are available to registered Waitomo District Library members. To make a request, please fill out this form or speak with a member of the Library Team, who can help determine whether the item can be sourced through interloan.

Newspapers

A selection of daily newspapers is available to read within the library, including the New Zealand Herald, Waikato Times, and the King Country News (available each Thursday).

Additional copies of the King Country News are delivered to the library and are available for customers to take home while stocks last.

If you prefer to read digitally, a range of newspapers and magazines can be accessed through the ePress collection in the BorrowBox app. BorrowBox is available free from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, giving you access to news and current publications wherever you are.

Printing, Photocopying, Scanning and Laminating

The library offers a range of printing, photocopying, scanning, and laminating services.

Printing

You can print documents at the library in several ways:

• Use one of the library computers and print directly from the device.

• Send your document from home by emailing it as an attachment to [email protected]. You will receive a return email containing a job number, which you can use to release your print job at the library. Print jobs are held in the system for up to 24 hours.

• Library staff can assist with locating and printing government and council forms available online.

Laminating

Laminating is available in A4 and A3 sizes. This service is completed by library staff and can usually be done while you wait.

Photocopying

Photocopying services are available in A4 and A3 sizes. Please ask at the service desk for assistance.

Scanning

A self-service scanner is available free of charge within the library. Documents can be scanned directly to an email address or saved to a USB flash drive. Staff are available to assist if required.

Click and Collect

 Our Click and Collect service is perfect for customers who would like to borrow library items but do not have time to browse the collection in person.

Simply tell us about your interests, favourite authors, preferred genres, or topics, and our library staff will select suitable items and set them aside for collection. You can then pick up your selection at a time that suits you.

Housebound service

If you are unable to visit the library due to age, illness, injury, disability, or mobility challenges, our Housebound Service may be able to help.

Available to eligible residents within the local area, this service provides a regular selection of library materials delivered directly to your home. Our staff can choose items based on your interests and preferences, ensuring you continue to enjoy access to books, audiobooks, and other library resources.

If you live rural, we may be able to assist using rural delivery or postal services.

3D printing

The library's 3D Printing Service provides an opportunity to turn digital designs into physical objects using modern 3D printing technology. Whether you're creating a prototype, replacement part, gift, or a creative project, 3D printing can help bring your ideas to life.

Customers can submit their own 3D design files or work with library staff to explore suitable options.

Digital assistance

Need a hand with technology? Library staff are available to provide basic digital assistance and help you build confidence using digital devices and online services.

• We can assist with a range of everyday enquiries, such as:

• Accessing and using library digital resources

• Downloading and using apps on smartphones or tablets

• Basic internet and email help

• Printing, scanning, and saving documents

• Accessing online government and community services

• Using library computers and Wi-Fi

 While our staff are happy to help with basic digital questions, please note that we are not IT professionals and cannot provide advanced technical support, device repairs, or troubleshooting for complex software or hardware issues.
