Manhole inspections underway

24 Feb 2025, 4:26 PM

Council’s water services staff will soon be out on the streets of Te Kūiti, undertaking inspections of manholes.

The inspections include condition assessments, data gathering such as location, and measuring its depth.

It is part of a larger project that will help with stormwater modelling, as indicated in Council’s Long Term Plan 2024-2034. The short-term solutions have already been implemented and the modelling is part of the medium and long term solution.

General Manager Infrastructure Services, Shyamal Ram says by working to gather data and identify any potential risks or failures to the network, we can better plan for how best to futureproof our stormwater network when we undertake the modelling. Once the stormwater network capacity constraints are identified, we will know what improvements we need.

“For the most part, manholes are located on public land and berms, however there may be instances where staff may need to locate a manhole on private property.

“We would appreciate it if residents were helpful when our staff call around, as it would make our job much easier.”

The inspections will take about five to six weeks, and a calling card will also be left afterwards with details of Council’s inspection.
