Slip on Te Waitere Road – please drive safe

Council is aware of a significant slip on Te Waitere Road. Currently the road is down to one lane with priority give way traffic control in place. Given there is poor weather forecast towards the end of the week, we encourage those needing to pass through this site to be vigilant and drive safely and to the conditions.

Fire restriction lifted - Waitomo District Council

31 Mar 2015

Due to recent colder weather and rain conditions continuing, Waitomo District Council is lifting the Restricted Fire Season for the year, therefore permits are no longer required for lighting of fires.

While a Restricted Season remains for Department of Conservation land and 1km safety margin around every reserve.

Despite lifting the restrictions, the fire danger remains high and people need to take care when lighting fires.

Fires should not be lit in strong winds and must be monitored at all times.

When a fire is lit it must be done so in a safe and considerate manner that does not cause a nuisance to your neighbours.

Residents and land owners should always be aware that access to their property and water supply is a big issue faced by fire fighters when attending calls.  Narrow gate ways and overgrown vegetation restricts fire vehicles from reaching the fire and water sources.

Removal of dead vegetation, trimming and thinning of trees, and reducing build-up of rubbish are all ways that you can help improve vehicle access to your property.
